National Consumer Protection Week begins Sunday, March 4th

(MIAMI, March 2, 2012) – The Miami-Dade County Business Affairs and Consumer Protection (BACP) division is joining other government agencies and organizations to promote consumer education during National Consumer Protection Week (NCPW), March 4-10, 2012.

BACP encourages all residents to visit ncpw.gov for consumer tips, materials and free resources from government agencies and nonprofit organizations.  In addition, we invite you to visit our department website by logging to www.miamidade.gov/business, to learn more about the free services and resources available to Miami-Dade County residents.   BACP investigates and mediates consumer complaints, enforces the County's consumer protection laws and business regulations, and licenses certain businesses.

National Consumer Protection Week is the perfect time to highlight consumer education and provide all residents an opportunity to become better-informed consumers.  This year, BACP will continue its countywide senior citizen campaign titled “Spread the Rumor, be a Smart Consumer.” The campaign was initiated last year to create consumer protection awareness among the elderly population.

In addition, the department will continue offering educational workshops throughout the year.  The workshops offered include a landlord tenant seminar, a clinic on zombie debts, and several small claims court clinics and business workshops.  For more information, you can call the Consumer Mediation Center at (305) 375-3677.
