Discover and celebrate everything green about Miami-Dade County during Miami-Dade Green Week on April 16-22, 2012


(Miami-Dade County, FL) – Earth Day is April 22, so get ready to get seriously green! During Miami-Dade Green Week on April 16-22, 2012, employees and residents will be able to discover and celebrate everything green the County has to offer with many events taking place at the Stephen P. Clark Center, 111 NW 1st Street, in Miami.

There's a great lineup of things to do. Highlights include showerhead and light bulb exchanges, sustainable technologies demonstrations, and hybrid vehicle displays.  The week will culminate with Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez honoring the first certified Miami-Dade Green Business, the 30th anniversary of Baynanza, and Environmental Villages at Miami-Dade’s Home Chemical Collection Centers. Monday, April 16 - Miami-Dade Green Week Kick-Off
• 11 am: Green Programming Unveiling, SPCC Lobby
• 12 pm: Home Energy Savings Workshop for Employees, SPCC 18-3

Tuesday, April 17 - Water Day
• 9 am: Water Conservation Month & Earth Week Proclamation, Commission Chambers
• 10 am-3 pm: Rain Barrel & Florida-Friendly Plants Demonstration, SPCC Lobby
• 10 am-3 pm: Showerhead & Light bulb Exchange, SPCC Lobby
• 10 am-4 pm: Farmer’s Market, SPCC Courtyard
• 2-3 pm: Sign-up for $750 Savings Challenge & Submit a Green Deed, SPCC Lobby

Wednesday, April 18 - Energy Day
• 9 am – noon: Lighting Energy Solutions Demo by Leviton & Phillips LED Bulbs, SPCC Lobby
• 10 am-noon: Light bulb & Showerhead Exchange, SPCC Lobby
• 2-4 pm: Sign-up for $750 Savings Challenge & Submit a Green Deed, SPCC Lobby
• 2-4 pm: Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Display, SPCC Westside
• 2-4 pm: Energy Savings Technology Demo by the Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department, including LED Light Fixtures and Solar Panels

Thursday, April 19 - Recycling Day
• 10 am-2 pm: Hybrid Truck Display, SPCC Westside
• 10 am-2 pm: Play the "Wheel of Trash or Treasure" test your solid waste and recycling knowledge
• 10 am-2 pm: View solid waste and recycling operations in action on the small screen
• 2-4 pm: Light bulb & Showerhead Exchange, SPCC Lobby
• 2-4 pm: Sign-up for $750 Savings Challenge & Submit a Green Deed, SPCC Lobby

Friday, April 20 - Healthy Living Day
• 8 am: Employee Ride Bike to Work Day
