Miami-Dade County provides FREE Energy Dashboard to Residents and Businesses on green.miamidade.gov

(MIAMI, May 3, 2012) – Miami-Dade County is pleased to announce the availability of a free online energy and utility tracking tool. The free website, powered by GreenQuest, is a personal energy dashboard that enables community members to track and analyze the energy and water use for their home or place of business. GreenQuest is being provided to the community in order to educate, raise awareness, and promote energy and water conservation, which can ultimately help them save money.

At http://green.miamidade.gov, Miami-Dade residents and businesses can track their energy and water use and cost; compare their building with its peers; evaluate energy saving projects; track their carbon footprint; analyze energy use with AccuWeather weather data; and as an option, obtain an ENERGY STAR building rating (for commercial buildings).  The service is completely free for community members and is safe and secure—no confidential user information is entered into GreenQuest.

“Utilizing federal grant funds, Miami-Dade County purchased an energy management software program, EnergyCap, to track utility bills for County buildings,” said Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez.  “When you want to save energy and money, the first step is to track your usage. With GreenQuest, we’re giving every Miami-Dade household and business a free, powerful tool to do the same thing.”

This free service is made available through the County’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program (EECBG), which includes a mix of energy management projects, citizen outreach and education, sub-grants, pilot/demonstration programs, construction projects, and incentive programs. It is part of the County’s energy efficiency campaign, an award-winning communitywide energy education program managed by the Office of Sustainability (OOS) that engages residents to gain support for energy and water conservation, renewable energy, recycling, and waste reduction, and serves as a catalyst for long-term behavior changes resulting in reduced energy usage.
