In debt and don’t know what to do?

Attend a free lunch and Debt Collection Seminar

(MIAMI, May 15, 2012) – Miami-Dade County’s Business Affairs and Consumer Protection Division, the Dade County Bar Association County Court Committee, and Sabadell United Bank, will be hosting a seminar on Debt Collection. The free seminar will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2012, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at Florida International University’s College of Law, located at 11200 S.W. 8th Street in Miami, Florida.

The economic downturn has caused many consumers to fall behind on their bills causing an increase in debt collection complaints.  Consumer Advocate Leonard Elias will be joined by Attorneys Scott D. Owens, Robert W. Murphy, and Donald Yarbrough, to discuss the nuts and bolts of debt collection.  Together they will teach consumers how to best protect themselves from unfair and unscrupulous collection agents.

The attorneys will educate participants on the Florida Federal Fair Debt Collection Laws, and will be addressing questions from the audience.

This event is free and open to the public. Lawyers who wish to attend must register through the Dade County Bar Association in order to receive two (2) continuing legal education credits.  DCBA Attorneys must pay $25.00 to attend and Non-DCBA Attorneys $35.00

Note:  If you are not an attorney and wish to attend you must call the Business Affairs and Consumer Mediation Center to RSVP at 305-375-3677.
