Ten Miami-Dade taxi chauffeurs win medallion lottery

(MIAMI, July 17, 2012) – The For-Hire Transportation Division of the Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources (RER) held a taxicab medallion lottery on Friday, July 13, 2012 and will issue ten (10) taxicab medallions.  Applications to participate in the lottery were accepted in September and October of 2011.

The recipients were selected through two (2) random lottery drawings. Four (4) medallions were issued to chauffeurs with twenty (20) or more years of continuous service as a Miami-Dade County chauffeur, and six (6) medallions were issued to chauffeurs who have been honorably discharged as veterans of the United States Armed Forces with a minimum of five (5) years of continuous service as a Miami-Dade County Chauffeur.

Winners will be required to pay a medallion fee of $5,000 prior to the medallion being issued.
