Save the Date: Free on the spot document shredding

(MIAMI, October 2, 2012) - Miami-Dade County is doing its part to help protect your identity.  As part of National Consumer Protection Week, the County’s Consumer Protection Section of the Business Affairs Division, is partnering with Clearpoint Credit Counseling, The City of Miami, Cintas, and HopeLine to help create identity theft awareness in the community.

On Saturday, October 20, 2012, a special event will take place at Grapeland Park, located at 1550 NW 37th Avenue in Miami. Consumer Protection Investigative Analysts will provide tips on minimizing the threat of identity theft. Residents can bring up to three (3) boxes of documents to shred, as well as old cell phones to be recycled at no cost.

This event is a great opportunity for consumers and businesses to protect themselves from identity theft by having their documents containing personal information shredded for FREE! Business owners can help protect their company and their customers by shredding old documents that contain sensitive information.

According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) as many as 9 million Americans have their identities stolen each year. In fact, you or someone you know may have experienced some form of identity theft.
