Extension to Participate in Redland’s First GrowFest

Educational and Fun for the Entire Family

(MIAMI, October 10, 2012) – The Miami-Dade Cooperative Extension Service is participating in Redland’s First GrowFest scheduled for the weekend of October 13-14, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Redland Fruit & Spice Park, located at 24801 SW 187th Avenue in Redland, Florida.

The two-day festival coordinated by Bee Heaven Farms in Homestead will promote South Dade’s local agriculture.  The event will showcase heirloom tomatoes, vegetable seedlings, fruit trees, great food, movies, park tours, and kids’ activities.  Don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate organic farming while enjoying a family fun-filled day.  In addition, there will be cooking and gardening demonstrations, great door prizes, and products for sale from local artisans.

Miami-Dade County Extension-University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) staff will have displays, workshops and hands-on activities for the entire family.  In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to exchange their old showerheads and light bulbs for new ones that are more efficient as part of the water conservation effort by the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department.

Admission is $10 for adults, and children under 12 are free.  The festival is a fundraiser for Florida Organic Growers & Consumers (FOG).
