Miami-Dade County Extension Sea Grant Program will host a workshop on the Introduction to Aquaculture and Marine Baitfish
(MIAMI, Fl. - August 23, 2013) – Want to learn more about aquaculture in Miami-Dade County? Miami-Dade County’s Cooperative Extension Sea Grant Program in partnership with the: University of Florida/IFAS Extension; University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences; and Florida’s Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services will host a workshop on the “Introduction to Aquaculture and Marine Baitfish” on September 19, 2013 from 9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. at 4600 Rickenbacker Causeway, Miami, FL 33149.
The workshop’s two-part session is designed for individuals with an interest in development or growth in aquaculture or related businesses. State aquaculture specialists and a representative from the FDACS Division of Aquaculture will share their expertise on topics such as:
Morning Session: Introduction to Aquaculture
- The status of aquaculture in Florida
- Pros and cons of specific business ventures
- An overview of state regulations
Afternoon Session: Introduction to Marine Baitfish Culture
- Baitfish market survey
- Species and culture methods
- Tour of UM Experimental Hatchery
