Miami-Dade Community Action Agency (CAA) is currently seeking program sites for the County’s 2010 Summer Food Service Program. The Summer Food Service Program will operate from June 7 through July 30, 2010. Program sites may be public or private locations that provide services for children during the summer and may include community centers, recreational centers, summer camps, cultural workshops, churches and other locations. Selected sites will receive meals during the summer to serve to children participating in their programs and the general public as part of the County’s Summer Food Service Program.
The Miami-Dade Community Action Agency (CAA) Head Start/Early Head Start Program is now accepting applications for the 2010-11 program year beginning in August.
Applications are being accepted at all Head Start/Early Head Start Centers in Miami-Dade County through April 30, 2010. Head Start is Early Childhood Education that puts children and families first, to give your child the Head Start they deserve.
Community Action Agency’s Customized Training Program offers employment training opportunities for qualified individuals.
The program is open to individuals who are unemployed or employed and desirous of upgrading their level of employment. To be eligible for the program individual incomes must not exceed 200% of the U.S. Poverty Guidelines. Participation in the program is limited to sixty-four participants.
The program offers training opportunities in a variety of fields including Security, Health Care, Clerical Assistance, Childcare, Network Systems and Data Communications Analysis, as well as a number of other fields that have been identified by the Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation as having the highest employment gains during the current economic downturn.
Scholarships Available to Assist Low Income Students
Community Action Agency's (CAA) Community Advisory Commitees (CAC) are accepting applications from January 19th through February 16, 2010 for educational scholarships in teh amount of $1,500 each. These scholarships are awarded to individuals between the ages of 16-25 to assist them with reaching their educational goals. To qualify, candidates must be currently enrolled in college or vocational institution or will be attending a college or vocational institution in the Fall of 2010.

Miami Dade County Community Action Agency’s Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) will continue assisting income eligible residents with payment of their gas and/or electric bill after a temporary suspension.

The Community Action Agency (CAA) Board of Directors will hold their monthly meeting on Monday, February 8, 2010 at 4:00 P.M. at the Overtown Transit Village located at 701 N.W. 1st Court in the historic Overtown community. This meeting is open to the public and members of the community are encouraged to attend.
