     Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

    Program Requirement

     

    Regular Energy

    Benefit Limits: Maximum $300

     

    Eligibility Requirements:

    You can only receive this benefit once in a 12 month period.   Example: If you received assistance September 1, 2008, you are not eligible again until September 2, 2009.  To qualify, applicant must reside in Miami-Dade County, have a total household income at or below 150 percent of the federal poverty income guidelines, and provide COPIES of the following:

    1. Social Security Cards for all household members
    2. Copy of picture ID for applicant only
    3. Copy and original of most recent energy bill
    4. Proof of income for every member of the household for the month prior to the application (and food stamp print out, if applicable)

    Upon completion of your application you will receive written notification within 15 working days

     

    CRISIS

    Benefit Limits: Maximum $600

     

    A Crisis is a Disconnection or Final Notice

    Eligibility Requirements: 

    To qualify applicant must reside in Dade County, have a total household income at or below 150 percent of the federal poverty income guideline, and provide COPIES of the following:

    1. Original and copy of current energy bill - final notice or disconnection
    2. Social Security cards of everyone in the household
    3. Identification for applicant only (drivers license or voters registration)
    4. Proof of income for every member for the household for the month prior to the application (and food stamp print out, if applicable)
    5. Documented proof of crisis

     

    Benefit limits: Maximum of $600 in crisis energy benefits, per household. (If bill exceeds $600, the difference must be paid and a receipt provided prior to completing the LIHEAP application).

    Allowable: The amount of the benefit payment is the minimum amount necessary to resolve the crisis.  Non Allowable: Program does not assist with deposits, late fees and reconnections.  Also not covered: a current diversion fees/tampering, fraudulent fees, return check fees.

     

    How long does it take? Upon completion of the application and approval, a commitment is made directly to vendor.  Crisis should be resolved within 48 hours.
