(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Created in 1965 as a result of Equal Opportunity legislation. Miami-Dade's Community Action Agency (CAA) is the largest CAA in the southeastern United States, and boasts a nationally recognized Head Start program as well as a number of other notable programs which includes its programs for the elderly and computer-training program. During the month of May, CAA's across the United States celebrate their accomplishments and continued commitment to fighting the war on poverty. The theme of this year's celebration is "Sowing the seeds of Change", reflecting on how CAA's continue to improve communities by assisting low-income individuals and families to become self sufficient.
During the month of May, the Community Action Agency will be holding a series of events and activities to increase awareness about the programs and services they have available to help make a difference in improving the quality of life of Miami-Dade County's poor. Among the events being held will include Community Open House Activities at our Community Enrichment Centers:

CAA is also partnering with the Community Action Agency Foundation to hold a community resource fair on Thursday, May 29, 2008 at the Joseph Caleb Center located at 2200 NW 54th Street in Miami from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The annual event brings together service providers in the areas of healthcare, community organizations, colleges and training programs, as well as federal state and county services in one location to provide better access in low-income communities.
The community resource fair and Community Open House activities are a part of events aimed at increasing community awareness about poverty programs in our community as well as highlight programs and services available through the Community Action network.
