Citizen Participation
Community Action and Human Services' Citizen Participation Program is an initiative administered under the direction of the Self Help Division, and provides a "bottoms-up approach" that meaningfully and respectfully incorporates the ideas and input of the residents in target areas through Community Advisory Committees (CACs).These committees are utilized to foster and sustain civic engagement in these communities. In accordance with the requirements of the Community Service Block Grant (CSBG) program, the Department's citizen participation strategy and approach affords residents the opportunity to identify community conditions and needs, develop and implement plans and monitor their effectiveness in improving the conditions in which low-income people live.
The citizen participation process encourages residents to become involved in their respective Community Advisory Committees. The CAC members are elected by and represent the residents in their communities.
Advisory Committee Meetings are held in each of these communities monthly.

Scholarship Program
The Community Advisory Committees award an annual scholarship in the amount of $1,500 to an individual from their target area who is currently enrolled in a college or vocational program, or has plans to attend college or a vocational school in the coming Fall.This scholarship initiative was developed to provide financial support to assist individuals from the communities served by the CAC an opportunity to attain their educational goals. The scholarship is open to individuals between the ages of 16-25 years old. To apply, please complete the application and return it to the CAC Staff representative no later than March 16, 2012.
