Miami-Dade County's Elderly Programs provides part-time volunteer opportunities for low-income persons age 60 and older through its Senior Companion Program. The programs provide participants the opportunity to enrich their lives through providing services to other seniors less frail than themselves. The program strives to prevent or reduce the need for institutional care, thereby helping the elderly to continue living at home. Volunteer benefits include an hourly stipend, transportation allowance, lunch reimbursement, training, casework service information and referrals.
Additional information regarding this program and the qualifications for participation is available by contacting the Department of Human Services at (305) 514-6000.
