Community Action and Human Services

From the Office of the Mayor From the Office of the Mayor

Recently, Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez introduced his plan to reduce the number of County departments from 42 to 25. The plan is a first step toward building a more efficient County government to better serve taxpayers.

The following is an excerpt from the Mayor’s County Reorganization Memorandum, specifically relating to the Community Action and Human Services Department.

“The Community Action and Human Services Department combines the Community Action Agency and the Department of Human Services. The combination of these departments will streamline the delivery of resources to targeted communities including children, seniors and families through advocacy, education and service delivery.

The advantages of combining these departments include the ability to refine and deliver a continuum of social services to residents over a wide range of service areas including early education, nutrition, psychological services, violence prevention and intervention. By consolidating these two departments, the County will be able to comprehensively address the needs of individuals and families from early childhood through late adulthood.”
