    • Proposed FY 2009 Policy Paper Available for Public Comments           The proposed FY 2009 Consolidated Planning Process Policies are now available for review and for public comment.  Through May 28, 2008 comments may be submitted in writing to the attention of José Cintrón, Director, Miami-Dade Office of Community and Economic Development, 701 NW 1ST Court, 14th Floor, Miami, Florida, 33136. A summary of these comments and the County’s responses will accompany the FY 2009 Action Plan. As of April 29, 2008, copies of the proposed FY 2009 Policy Paper have been available to the public. Copies of that document may be obtained from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the address mentioned above. For more information, please call (786) 469-2100.

    • The Mayor’s Office will hold a workshop on fundraising, grant development, and marketing on Wednesday, June 4, 2008, from 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM. at the West Dade Regional Library on 9445 Coral Way. Find out more. The Mayor’s Community and Economic Development Initiative provides technical assistance to nonprofit community based organizations through workshops that enhance the development of decent affordable housing, the creation and retention of jobs and businesses, and the revitalization of neighborhoods. The initiative kicked off on October 31, 2007 with a one-day hands-on workshop that focused on nonprofit effectiveness and capacity building.

    • Miami-Dade County Office of Community and Economic Development 2008 MID YEAR RFA was made available to the public on February 6, 2008; the deadline to submit the application is March 7, 2008 at 4:00 p.m.  Category 1 applicants will be awarded a local match commitment for developments meeting threshold requirements for the 2008 Florida Housing Finance Corporation (FHFC) Universal Cycle.  Category 2 is intended to provide gap financing to those developments that have been previously awarded public funding, but require a final award to bring affordable housing developments to fruition.  Finally, the County will accept requests only from developers who submitted applications during the regular 2008 RFA cycle,  which occurred last June, but were either partially funded or not funded due to funding constraints.  Only rental developments and counseling services will be considered.  These applicants should apply for category 3 funding.  Applications must be delivered to the Clerk of the Board of County Commissioners on the 17th floor, Stephen P. Clark Center, 111 NW 1st Street, by March 7, 2008 at 4:00 p.m.

    • The Miami-Dade Office of Community and Economic Development (OCED) is announcing the availability to serve as a voting member to the Miami Dade County Affordable Housing Advisory Board (AHAB). The AHAB functions as a County’s affordable housing advisory committee and consists of fifteen (15) members who act without compensation and serve as appointees of the Board of County Commissioners (13), the Mayor (1) and the Overall Tenant Advisory Council (1).  The County is looking for individuals with expertise in the areas of residential home building, banking or mortgage banking; labor; advocacy for low income persons, providers of housing; real estate, planning  and essential services personnel like firefighters, teachers and criminal justice personnel.

    • The FY 2008 RFA program funds (CDBG, HOME, Hodag, SHIP, ESG and Surtax) have been allocated to address the priority needs identified by residents including, but not limited to: affordable housing needs; homeless needs; and non housing community development needs; including public facilities and capital improvements needs; economic development needs; public service needs; and historic preservation needs.  The FY 2008 Recommendations were approved by the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners on November 6, 2007 along with the FY 2008-2012 Consolidated Plan.  Please click on the following link to review theAdobe PDF Exhibit 1 which lists those recommendations for CDBG, HOME, Hodag, SHIP, ESG and Surtax.  The FY 2008 Action Plan and FY 2008-2012 Consolidated will be submitted for final approval by November 15, 2007. 

    • OCED is seeking consultants, contractors and sub contractors to participate in a bid pool for their Commercial Revitalization Program (CRP).  The CRP program provides grants of up to $100,000 to qualified property owners and merchants to improve the facades of their business property.

    • On October 6, 2007, Miami-Dade County made available for a 30-day public comment period, the proposedAdobe PDF FY 2008-2012 Consolidated Plan as well as the funding recommendations for the proposed FY 2008 Action Plan.  The Miami-Dade County Office of Community and Economic Development encourages residents of Miami-Dade County to express their comments regarding the proposed FY 2008-2012 Consolidated Plan and 2008 Action Plan by writing to Jose Cintron, Director, Miami-Dade County Office of Community and Economic Development at 701 NW 1st Court ,14th floor, Overtown Transit Village Building, Miami, Florida 33136.  Written comments on the FY 2008 Action Plan must be received by and will be accepted until Monday, November 5, 2007.  A public hearing to consider the FY 2008 Action Plan funding recommendations and those of the State Housing Initiatives Program (SHIP) and Documentary Surtax Program (Surtax) will be held at a special meeting before the Board of Miami-Dade County Commissioners’ scheduled for 10:00 AM, Wednesday, October 24, 2007 in the Commission Chamber located on the 2nd level of the Stephen P.     • Miami-Dade County is proposing to make the following amendment and fund housing initiatives for low and low-to-moderate income people. Federal regulations governing the CDBG Program funds require that a participating jurisdiction provide citizens with reasonable notice of, and an opportunity to comment on, any substantial amendments to the FY 2007 Action Plans. Miami-Dade County’s entitlement for FY 2007 is $18,670,347, with program income projected in the amount of $400,000, for a total of $19,070,347. Through this reprogramming, $5,950,463.76, approved by the Board of County Commissioners through resolution # R-802-07 on July 10, 2007 for land acquisition for Affordable Housing.

    Miami-Dade Office of Community and Economic Development holds regular community meetings throughout the county to hear directly from the public how to best meet neighborhood needs. Meetings are held on a regular, often monthly,  basis in most districts.
