    Public Meetings

    About Public Meetings
Is there a service or facility your neighborhood needs? Do you want to attract new business to your community or restore beauty and vitality to your area? If so, the Miami-Dade County Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) wants help make some of those things happen. The DHCD spends approximately $18 million dollars of federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds annually. They have regular community meetings throughout the county to hear directly from the public how to best meet neighborhood needs. Meetings are held on a regular, often monthly, basis in most districts. Planning often begins a year in advance of the funding for new activities.

    Who Should Attend?
Anyone who lives, works, or serves low-to-moderate income neighborhoods should attend these meetings. That includes residents, property owners, business owners, community-based organizations, community development corporations, or people with special needs.  Also, representatives of participating cities, and other interested parties are strongly encouraged and welcomed to participate at these meetings in an ongoing effort to improve the quality of life for low and moderate income persons and families within Miami-Dade County.

    Why Attend These Community Forums?
This is your opportunity to be heard before the DHCD makes its recommendations to the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners on funding allocations. Your input helps us prioritize the various wants and needs in your community. At the meetings there will be an opportunity to review and provide comments on topics such as the Action Plan which details the funding allocations and proposed accomplishments for the current year. Priority needs for services, programs, and projects in the area of public services, affordable housing, capital improvements, historic preservation, program planning and development, and  economic development are also discussed.
