2012 Charter Admendments

Section 9.08 of the Miami-Dade County Home Rule Charter requires that the Board of County Commissioners at least once in every five year period review the Charter and determine whether or not there is need for revisions.

Changes may be made to the Charter only by the affirmative vote of the electorate. Amendments may be proposed and placed on the ballot either by the Board of County Commissioners or by petition of the citizens.

On March 8, 2012, the Board of County Commissioners approved Resolution 254-12 , a proposed Charter amendment for the November 6, 2012 ballot regarding term limits for County Commissioners of two consecutive four-year terms. The Board also approved Resolution 253-12  creating a Charter Review Task Force.  The Task Force was charged with reviewing the Charter and providing written recommendations to the Board of County Commission.  The Task Force has completed their Final Recommendations Report . The Report was presented to the Board of County Commissioners at their July 17, 2012 meeting.

Proposed Charter amendments were considered by the Board of County Commissioners at a Special Board meeting on August 23, 2012, at 9:30 a.m., at the Stephen P. Clark Center, located at 111 N.W. 1st Street, Commission Chambers, 2nd floor.
