Paul J. Schwiep, Esq.
Paul J. Schwiep is an attorney with the firm Coffey Burlington where his practice focuses on business and class action disputes in federal and state court. He has successfully tried numerous business contract and tort disputes, including cases involving distribution agreements, class action insurance disputes and business and real estate contracts. In November 2000, he was appointed by The Florida Supreme Court to serve on Florida's Board of Bar Examiners, which regulates admission to The Florida Bar. He is currently Chairman elect of The Florida Board of Bar Examiners. Mr. Schwiep is Chairman of the Transportation Trust.
Mr. Schwiep has authored several major articles on various business litigation topics. His 1996 article regarding Florida's economic loss doctrine was awarded the prestigious Barbara Sanders Award as the most outstanding article of the year. His analysis has been cited and relied upon by the Florida Supreme Court in a ground breaking opinion on the impact of the economic loss rule on commercial tort claims. Mr. Schwiep has been invited by Florida's trial court judges to speak at their annual judicial conference on complex rules of evidence. He is an annual lecturer at the Bar's Commercial Litigation Seminar. After graduating from law school, Mr. Schwiep served as law clerk for the Honorable H. Theodore Milburn of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
In addition to his trial and appellate practice, Mr. Schwiep has served as a member of the Charter Commission for Palmetto Bay. He also serves the Miami-Dade County Citizens Transportation Advisory Committee and is a member of the Boards of Directors of the Urban Environment League and The Stiltsville Trust.
