- Elected Council Members

- Candidate must be a resident elector of Miami-Dade County for at least three (3) years prior to qualifying.
- Candidate must be a resident elector of Council area for at least six (6) months prior to qualifying.
- Candidate must be a resident elector of the Subarea for at least three (3) months prior to qualifying.
- All candidates for Community Council shall qualify with the Clerk of the Circuit Court no earlier than the 51st day and no later than 5:00 pm of the 49th day prior to the date of the election of which he or she is a candidate, in the manner provided by law or ordinance. Each candidate shall pay a filing fee of one hundred dollars ($100.00).
- No council member shall be employed by Miami-Dade County or be a member of the County Commission.
- Community Council members are prohibited by Code from sitting on more than one County board.
At qualifying, interested candidates shall submit proof of residency which shall establish that the qualifying candidate has met the residency requirements for the required period.

- Appointed Council Members

- These members shall be appointed by the County Commissioner(s) whose district(s) include the boundaries of all or part of the Community Council area.
- Appointee must be a resident elector of the Council area for at least three (3) years prior to qualifying.
- Appointments shall be confirmed by a majority of the Board of County Commissioners.
- No appointed Council Members shall be employed by Miami-Dade County or be a member of the County Commission.
- Community Council members are prohibited by Code from sitting on more than one County board.

Candidates interested in being appointed to a Community Council shall submit a current resume, a copy of their voter registration card and a valid photo ID to the Department of Planning & Zoning. Additional information can be obtained by calling the Department at 305-375-2800.
- Financial Disclosure

- All Council members are required to file a Financial Disclosure (Form 1) within 30 days of appointment or election to the Council and on a yearly basis, thereafter.
- Departing members must file a Final Financial Disclosure (Form 1 F) within 60 days of their effective departure date with the Elections Department. Failure to do so may result in severe penalties. For additional information, please contact the Elections Department, or call 305-499-8413.
