Effective And Innovative Program Wins
The 2009 NACo Achievement Award

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --
The Office of Neighborhood Compliance (ONC), was recently recognized by the National Association of Counties (NACo) for its new and innovative code compliance e-Ticketing Program.

ONC is responsible for addressing code violations in response to the needs of the residents in unincorporated Miami-Dade County.  The department’s services are provided to more than one million residents county-wide.  Although ONC is a centralized department, its Neighborhood Compliance Officers (NCOs) monitor their assigned regional zones with the assistance of the newly implemented e-Ticketing technology.  This mobile solution allows NCOs to get more work done in the field.  Officers use ruggedized laptops that facilitate the issuance of code documents, electronic information transfer, and paperless case processing right from their cars.

Launched in October 2008, the technology has significantly increased productivity and has reduced errors and re-works.  “With the e-Ticketing technology, we are more proactive in addressing quality of life issues in our community.  The paperless case processing features are highly efficient and they help us to achieve our sustainability goals,” said Sam Walthour, ONC director.

The Office of Neighborhood Compliance continues to look for innovative solutions to address the needs of our community……..one block at a time.
