Most South Florida residents recognize that the area we live on is one of the most unique in the world and a great natural treasure. It is up to all of us to care for this very fragile system and preserve it not only for the benefit it provides to our ecosystem as a whole, but so that future generations of Floridians can enjoy.
Perhaps one of the most precious of these is the Everglades Ecological System, which not only contributes to South Florida’s water supply, flood control and recreation, but serves as the habitat for diverse species of plant and wildlife. Because of adverse changes in water quality, quantity, distribution, and timing of flows, the Everglades is endangered.
To this end, federal legislation created the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP). Popularly known as "The Journey to Restore America's Everglades," this partnership of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, South Florida Water Management District, Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department and many other federal, state, local and tribal partners is working in concert to restore the precious Everglades.
