Legislative Update

On 7/17/08, the Board of County Commissioners passed, on first reading, an ordinance to place a permanent restriction on serving water in restaurants unless specifically requested by the customer. A Public Hearing has been tentatively scheduled for the September 9th Governmental Operation and Environment Committee meeting.

Lodging establishments and restaurants participating in the Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) Green Lodging initiative are encouraged to adopt cost-saving ‘green’ practices that conserve energy, reduce water consumption, protect air quality and reduce waste. 

Miami-Dade, the Green Lodging and Restaurant Program’s first county partner, provides technical assistance and water conservation information to lodging establishments and restaurants in the area.
