Homeowner Associations Water Efficient Landscape
Homeowner Associations (HOAs) within Miami-Dade County can create water efficient communities and be reimbursed up to $2,850.
This irrigation incentive project is part of a larger effort to better manage our traditional water supplies while encouraging the development of alternative water supplies and improving the efficiency of our current water use. Developing efficient practices and using water wisely to enhance our life can help our community avoid the likelihood of future water shortages.
How the project works in 4 easy steps:
- HOA signs a Letter of Agreement
with FYN and MDWASD.
Mail to:
Florida Yards and Neighborhoods
c/o Laura Vasquez, FYN Coordinator
18710 SW 288 St.
Homestead, FL 33030
Phone: 305-248-3311 x 239 - An appointment with the HOA will be scheduled to evaluate the irrigation system.
- A soil moisture sensor will be provided FREE of charge to be installed by the HOA’s irrigation contractor.
- HOA submits copies of paid invoices for retrofits & sensor installation for reimbursement by MDWASD.
Outdoor irrigation accounts for up to 50 percent of water use in Florida, and up to 50 percent of the water applied to lawns is lost to evapotranspiration.
Soil Moisture Sensors
-
Soil moisture sensors provide a method for improving irrigation and water savings by not watering when the soil moisture is already sufficient for plant growth.
-
Experience with these control systems on homes has shown water savings of 50% relative to other homes with only irrigation timers.
