The Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (WASD) has long been the sole water supplier for most residents of Miami-Dade County. We draw approximately 347 millions gallons a day from the Biscayne Aquifer; an underground limestone formation located directly underneath much of Miami-Dade and Broward counties and parts of Palm Beach and Monroe counties.
The quality of our drinking water is first rate, exceeding both state and federal drinking water standards. Our lab technicians make sure our water is tested more than 100,000 times a year and is free of any harmful materials. WASD has won the distinction of having the “Best Tasting Water” as judged by the Florida Section of the American Water Works Association two years in a row (2005-2006). Our employees work around-the-clock to ensure that our customers always have safe, fresh water to drink and reliable, sanitary disposal of wastewater.
Additionally, WASD has an exemplary record in regional and countywide water planning efforts. The Department continues to be an active member of water planning groups such as the Lower East Coast Regional Water Supply Plan and the Water Resources Advisory Commission, and is also an active participant in the Florida Department of Environmental Protection Conserve Florida Program.
