The Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners adopted the Miami-Dade Water Use Efficiency Plan in 2006. The planning effort recognizes that developing efficient practices and using water wisely can help our community avoid costly infrastructure. A gallon of water that we save today is a gallon of water that will not have to be produced at the anticipated future higher cost.
Miami-Dade residents have responded to the call to be more efficient in their water use contributing to an unprecedented drop in consumption accounting for a reduction in consumption of over 28 million gallons a day from 2007 to the present. This collective awareness has allowed for the per capita use to drop from 158 to 138 gallons per person per day during the same period of time.
The Miami-Dade Water-Use Efficiency Plan was developed with the Department of Environmental Resources' Conserve Florida Guide, this initiative has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's WaterSense Program with a mentoring designation.
Below are copies of the initial plan and subsequent annual reports.
