The Miami-Dade Water Use Permit

The Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (WASD) is currently working closely with community residents to ensure that their homes and business are operating as water-efficiently as possible. To this end, the Department is implementing the Water-Use Efficiency Twenty-Year Plan created to ensure long-range water savings.

This goal-based, accountable plan is tailored to meet  the South Florida Water Management District requirements for WASD's consumptive use permit, this plan was approved by the SFWMD in May 2007. The savings associated with this plan amount to over one million gallons a day for the next 20-years. This will allow us to achieve an improvement in water use efficiency through:

  • Accommodating future economic development and population growth while protecting our water resources;
  • Reducing or deferring the cost of maintaining and expanding water delivery, treatment, and disposal systems;
  • Reducing energy and maintenance costs of WASD facilities.
