    Providing for the safety of inmates and staff who were involved in a vehicle crash

    · They secured the scene by establishing a 360 degree perimeter around  
       the entire crash site.
    · The team also assessed all personnel for possible injuries.
    · They ascertained the extent of vehicular damage. 

    Bronze Medal

    The discovery and recovery of a .22 caliber semi-automatic handgun inside a new arrestee’s right shoe.  Both men are being commended for their keen attention to detail and the ability to take charge of a situation which led to the confiscation of a dangerous weapon.

    Both men are being commended for actions that they took November 11, 2006.  Both officers were instrumental in capturing an inmate who had attempted to escape from the facility the Training and Treatment Center.

     Meritorious Service Ribbon/Correctional Achievement Ribbon/Unit Citation

    The Training Bureau has been cited for their dedication and devotion to duty.  In her memorandum, Lt. Wanda McMullen states, “I fully understand that we have a totally thankless mission and commend you for continually striving forward and never loosing sight of our objective.”  The contributions of the Training Bureau include Human Diversity Training for 1889 Officers; CPR certification for 1197 officers; Basic First Aid certification for 956 officers; SCBA/Drager Training for 1600 officers; 1735 packages distributed on MRSA Awareness and Universal Precautions; department wide transition from the MSA/SCBA to the Drager/SCBA; New Employee Orientation Classes for all newly hired staff and completed facility orientation for all newly sworn officers; developed and conducted a BOSS Chair Train the Trainer course and numerous BOSS Chair User courses; Direct Supervision courses for 397 officers; developed and conducted Sony Handy Cam Train the Trainer and Sony Handy Cam Operator course for 53 officers.  The list of training opportunities that have been provided through the Training Bureau is endless.  Therefore the Employee Recognition Program Committee is recommending that the following award allotments be made to Training Bureau staff.

    Life Saving Award

    Officer Arlene Rogers

    Officer Arlene Rogers received the department’s Life Saving Award for saving the life of a fellow correctional officer.

    Both officers are being commended  for actions that they took on Sunday, February 10, 2008.    Both officers are being commended for their diligence and their role in helping to save the life of an inmate in custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

    Police and Fire Games Gold Medal

    The annual Police and Fire Games were held in Sarasota, Florida. Congratulations to all the employees who competed in the many events and placed in one of the top three positions. The 40+ Men’s Basketball team brought home the Gold Medal. The men’s team presented Director Timothy Ryan with a gold medal, during the weekly Senior Staff meeting on Monday 7, 2008,   as an expression of their gratitude for his show of support at their local games.
