The Rehabilitative Services Bureau of the Miami Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department is a vital entity and asset to Miami Dade County. The Rehabilitative Services Bureau is responsible for assisting inmates with specific needs via their direct contact with Correctional Counselors during daily interactions. Additionally, the Rehabilitative Services Bureau is responsible for the comprehensive educational, vocational, social and behavioral services for inmates at all detention facilities. The Rehabilitative Services Bureau has worked tirelessly, to establish partnerships with public and private sector community based organizations to achieve its overall goal of reducing recidivism and enhancing the successful re-entry of inmates back into society. The Rehabilitative Services Bureau maintains its Responsible Transition Program, still impacting inmates having short periods of incarceration remaining on their sentence. The Rehabilitative Services Bureau strives to produce quality life-style changes in the clients we serve.
The RSB highlights its Responsible Transition Program (RTP) as a flagship operation for its efforts in preparing inmates for re-entering the world of work and meaningful independent communal living. Inmates meaning the expiration date of their sentence given educational support; (1) To increase their probability of positive health outcomes and to prevent relapse; (2) To prevent spread of disease; (3) To prevent the development of
drug –resistant strains of virus; (4) To reduce the likelihood of recidivism related to illness; and to (5) To insure the health safety and stability of families and communities that must assist and cope with releasees who are ill.
