Dr. Harold A. Vieux, a practicing family therapist and ordained pastor, is the first Haitian-American chair in the forty-five year history of the Miami-Dade County Community Relations Board (CRB). Throughout its long history, the Miami-Dade County CRB has engaged influential community leaders in activities and initiatives aimed at fostering greater communication, understanding and mutual respect among our diverse populations. The primary mission of the CRB is to intervene in the event of intergroup crisis and to work proactively to address tensions before conflicts arise. Miami-Dade's changing demographics and persistent economic, social and political inequities have created evolving and often difficult obstacles that have challenged succeeding generations of CRB leaders.
Dr. Vieux was sworn in as the CRB Chair in September 2007. His priorities for the CRB's focus during his tenure include: equal protection for immigrants, enhanced police and citizen relations and more effective communications between the diverse cultural and ethnic groups. Dr. Vieux has served as the Chair of the CRB's Fair Immigration Committee for the past four years and has worked tirelessly with local immigrant activists and community leaders to build consensus around the need for comprehensive immigration reform that reflects our community's values of equal justice and due process for all. Dr. Vieux has been a leader of several delegations that have included Miami-Dade elected officials and community leaders who have traveled to Washington D. C. to meet with Congressional leaders to educate them about our community's priorities for fair immigration. He has also represented the CRB and community interests at numerous meetings and events with South Florida's United States Senators and Representatives and with their senior staff's.
Dr.Vieux was born in Cap Haitien, Haiti, moved with his family to Long Island N.Y. and served in the United States Marines. He holds degrees from the University of California, St. Thomas University and the Jacksonville Baptist Theological Seminary. He is currently a registered Marriage and Family Therapist and is an ordained Pastor presently serving at Trinity Church in Miami Gardens. Dr. Vieux hosts the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) television's Creole programs that are aired in Haiti. He formerly hosted the television program "Vision Communautaire" that addressed social and religious issues of interest to South Florida's Creole-speaking communities. Dr. Vieux is the President of the Conference of Haitian Pastors United in Christ, Inc., a leadership development and networking group that includes leaders from more than 70 Florida churches and faith-organizations. He is also the President of the Haitian American Youth Task Force, Inc. (HAYTFO) which seeks to involve local children, teens and young adults in positive social, cultural and educational activities.
