    For-Hire Vehicle Inspections

    The Code of Miami-Dade County requires that any company or individual who seeks to provide transportation for compensation be licensed, their drivers trained and insured, and their vehicles registered, insured and inspected.

    For-hire vehicles are inspected at the Consumer Services Department's Vehicle Inspection Station, 2615 NW 10 Avenue, Miami, Florida 33127. Service hours are Monday to Saturday between the hours of 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM.

    The types of vehicles - the law requires be inspected include taxicabs, limousines, passenger motor carriers, non-emergency, special transportation service (STS), and ambulances. Vehicles used to transport children such as vans and private black and yellow school busses must also be inspected.

    Vehicles are inspected for compliance with specific vehicle standards contained in the Code. These include, but are not limited to brakes, tires, headlights, turn signals, horn, brake lights, cleanliness, and other safety and cosmetic components.

    Vehicles are scheduled for annual, semi-annual or quarterly inspection according to their age as outlined in the various transportation ordinances, or as a result of citations issued by field enforcement personnel.

    A vehicle which does not pass the inspection as a result of a safety deficiency will not be allowed to conduct for-hire operations until the deficiency has been corrected and the vehicle passes a re-inspection.

    Late Fees
    All vehicles that are late for their scheduled inspection or re-inspection, or upon being cited for deficiencies by field enforcement personnel, fail to meet the deadline to correct these deficiencies, are subject to a $35.00 decal replacement fee.

    Payment
    Inspection fees are payable at the time of inspection and must be in the form of a check, credit card (MasterCard or Visa) or money order. Cash payments are not accepted.
