The Consumer Services Department (CSD) enforces the County's consumer protection laws and business regulations, licenses certain businesses, and investigates and mediates consumer complaints. We also conduct seminars and workshops and give talks to schools, colleges, civic groups and business organizations to help raise public awareness about a range of consumer-related issues.
The department regulates towing, motor vehicle repair shops, locksmiths, moving, for-hire transportation and water re-metering. In addition, the Consumer Protection Division enforces consumer protection laws under Miami-Dade County's Uniform Trade Standards and Deceptive Trade Practices codes that apply to all businesses operating in Miami-Dade County. Some of the issues the code addresses, for example, include misleading advertisements, return policy and tipping rules.
Through our partnership with the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Cooperative Extension Division provides technical assistance to commercial agricultural growers, backyard gardeners, homeowners, and manage youth and family development programs.
