The Miami-Dade Cooperative Extension Division will host a Hurricane Preparedness Workshop on the proper landscaping techniques to implement before a storm on Thursday, June 25. It will be held at the John D. Campbell Agricultural Center, 18710 S.W. 288th St. in Homestead from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Attendees will learn the principles of correct pruning and planting which keeps trees from becoming dangerous projectiles during a powerful storm and inflicting damage or injury. Meteorologist-in-Charge Rusty Pfost of the National Weather Service's Miami office will provide an outlook for the 2009 hurricane season with information on the number of storms that are expected to develop. Other topics include safety and climbing strategies, bucket truck operation and innovative tools.
Registration for the course is $15 and includes lunch and publications. Checks should be made out to "Miami-Dade Extension Program Account."
