(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- With the end of summer comes the dry season to South Florida. To help mitigate the effects that a lack of moisture can have on your yard, the Miami-Dade Cooperative Extension is offering a workshop on Keeping a GREEN yard in the dry season. It will be held Saturday, November 7, from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m., at the John D. Campbell Agricultural Center, 18710 S.W. 288th Street, in Homestead.
Presentations will cover the amount of water plants need; types of low maintenance and drought-tolerant plants used to adorn landscapes; and maintaining and promoting good plant health. Participants will also learn how to set up an irrigation timer and soil moisture sensor, repair sprinklers and properly apply fertilizer. In addition, they will be able to view a working rain barrel installation.
The workshop registration fee is $10. To make your reservation now, call Patty Viera at (305) 248-3311, ext. 225. For additional information, contact Laura Vasquez at (305) 248-3311, ext. 239.
After the workshop, attendees can enjoy a variety of activities to do around the area. More information is available online at www.redlandriot.com.
