The exam is made up of a combination of 50 multiple choice and true/false questions for PMC, NE/STS, Private School Bus, Renewing Taxi and Limousine classes; 100 questions for TCAP (new taxi drivers); 75 questions for TIPS (new limousine drivers); and 40 questions for Jitney.
For the 50 question exam you have 1.5 hours; for the 100 question exam you have 2.5 hours; for the 75 question exam you have 2 hours; and for the 40 question exam you have 1 hour.
Depending on the industry that you will work for you may be tested on the following subjects: Americans with Disabilities Act, Customer Service, Miami-Dade County Code Rules and Regulations, Safety, and Geography/Map Reading.
How many questions can I miss on the exam and still pass?
You can miss 15 questions on the 50 question exam; you can miss 30 questions on the 100 question exam (TCAP); you can miss 23 questions on the 75 question exam (TIPS); and you can miss 12 questions on the 40 question exam (Jitney).
If I fail the exam, how many times can I take it again?
Should you fail the exam, you will have a second chance to take the exam at no additional cost. If you fail the exam on your second attempt, there is a $15 fee for each time you take the exam thereafter. Depending on the course, the re-exam may be weekly or bimonthly.
When will I not need to take a class and exam to renew my license?
Every other year you will need to take a course and exam to renew your license unless you have had your for-hire chauffeur license in Miami-Dade County for 20 consecutive years. This regulation does not apply to private school bus chauffeurs.
Can I refuse to transport people with disabilities who are accompanied by a service animal?
You cannot refuse to transport a person with a disability that has a service animal for any reason. It would be illegal to refuse to transport them and you can be fined up to $500 and 60 days of imprisonment (s. 775.082, s. 775.083). NOTE: You cannot charge people with disabilities any additional charges for transporting them.
How can I tell if an animal is really a service animal and not just a pet?
If you are not certain that an animal is a service animal, you may ask if the animal is required because of a disability. NOTE: Most service animals wear a harness.
