Bumper Stickers on For-Hire Vehicles |
Dear Valued Customers:
As you know, the various for-hire ordinances require for hire operators to adopt and use, after approval by the Consumer Services Department (CSD) a uniform color scheme for all vehicles operating under the various certificates of transportation. Bumper stickers that advertise, advocate, or promote products persons or events are not part of the approved color scheme and are not permitted on for hire vehicles.
The CSD has been lenient in enforcing this prohibition regarding bumper stickers and has not required the removal of bumper stickers unless they were used to hide exterior vehicle damage. However, over time there has been an increase in the number and type of stickers being placed on vehicles as well as where the stickers were being placed on the vehicle. The overall effect of the stickers has been to make the appearance of the vehicle less appealing.
Therefore, effective immediately no bumper stickers will be permitted on any for-hire vehicle regulated by the CSD. Please take the necessary steps to remove any and all bumper stickers on vehicles operating under your license(s).
Starting January 1, 2009, Passenger Transportation Enforcement Officers and For Hire Vehicle Inspectors will be requiring drivers to remove all bumper stickers observed on the street, or at the department's vehicle inspection station.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation in complying with this requirement. If you have any questions concerning this matter, please contact David Mattison, Vehicle Inspection Manager at 305-638-6051.
