Miami Intermodal Center (MIC) |
Dear Valued Customers:
This letter is to inform you of some structural changes happening in and around Miami International Airport. A major transportation hub is being developed near Miami International Airport by the Florida Department of Transportation called the Miami Intermodal Center (MIC). It consists of a Rental Car Center, the Miami Central Station (a ground transportation hub), roadway improvements, and the MIA Mover – all to be completed by 2012.
Here are some important facts:
- Taxicab service to and from Miami International Airport will continue as usual, with curbside pick-up and drop-off.
- Taxicab service will also be needed at the MIC.
MIC Program Description
The Miami Intermodal Center will be similar in function to New York City’s Grand Central Station and to other multimodal facilities found in major cities around the world. The MIC will provide many benefits to the area’s transportation customers. It will offer safe and efficient transfers for users of various rail systems, buses, taxis, rental cars, privately-owned automobiles, bicycles and pedestrians to and from Miami International Airport. The MIC will also absorb much of the vehicular traffic that presently congests MIA terminal roadways and will increase terminal curb capacity at the airport.
Currently under construction is the Rental Car Center. It will house all the rental car companies that will relocate from their current location at Miami International Airport. Located between Le Jeune Road, its area is bounded by NW 25th Street on the north, NW 38th Court on the east, NW 21st Street on the south and Le Jeune Road on the west. Construction is expected to be completed by the spring of 2010.
