Any person unable to obtain certification as a specialty or master mechanic, motor vehicle body repair technician, or motor vehicle paint technician who desires on-the-job training in Miami-Dade County.
When to Apply
Monday through Friday (except holidays) 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Initial and renewal applicants can apply in person or by mail.
Initial permit fee ranges from $15.00 to $28.75 based on month of birth. A one (1)
year certificate renewal is $15.00 and a two (2) year certificate renewal is $30.00.
Cash will not be accepted. Fees can be paid by check, money order or cashiers check made payable to the “Board of County Commissioners”. Renewal applicants applying in person and initial applicants may also pay by credit card (MasterCard or Visa)
If the application process is not completed within sixty (60) days from the date that the application was filed with the Consumer Services Department, the application will be considered abandoned and closed and a new application and fee will be required.
A late fee of $7.50 will be required if the renewal application is submitted after the expiration of the current permit. The late fee is in addition to the permit renewal fee.
Certificate Replacement
Lost, destroyed or mutilated permits can be replaced by submitting satisfactory proof of loss, destruction or mutilation and payment of a $10.00 replacement fee.
The permit shall be prominently displayed in a conspicuous location in the motor vehicle repair shop where the permit holder is employed.
Supervision
An apprentice must be employed by a motor vehicle repair facility which has obtained a registration and shall be required to work under the direct supervision of a certified motor vehicle mechanic/technician.
