The Miami-Dade County Consumer Services Department and the Dade County Bar Association’s County Court Committee are inviting the public to a “Lunch n’ Learn Landlord / Tenant Law” seminar on Tuesday, May 6. The event, which commemorates Law Week 2008, will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Courtrooms 2-7 of the North Dade Justice Center, 15555 Biscayne Blvd. in North Miami.
The presentation is designed to educate landlords, property managers, tenants and lawyers about the notice procedures involved in an eviction process and the return of security deposits.
“There is clearly a need for education on these issues,” said Miami-Dade Consumer Advocate Leonard Elias, who is Chair of the County Court Committee.
“Although the Consumer Services Department has no regulatory authority in this area of consumer law, it is one of the issues for which consumers often seek the assistance of the department’s Mediation Center.”
The seminar will be co-presented by Carolina Lombardi, a Senior Housing Attorney for Legal Services of Greater Miami, Inc. who represents tenants, and Michael Birnholz, a private attorney who represents landlords. They will discuss eviction procedures and the management of security deposits to help attorneys, landlords, property owners and tenants understand their rights and responsibilities.
Lunch will be provided at 11:30 a.m., and the seminar will start promptly at noon.
Registration ends Friday, May 2. The seminar fee for the general public is $15. Dade County Bar Association members may register for $20 and non-member attorneys for $30.
A two (2) hour Continuing Legal Education Requirement credit request for attorneys is pending before the Florida Bar.
