Baynanza 2008 was fun and very fulfilling for thousands of community volunteers. Thanks to the participation of more than 7,600 volunteers and over 150 DERM employees, the Baynanza Biscayne Bay Cleanup Day was a huge success.
On Saturday, April 19th, the volunteers charged their way to the 29 cleanup sites throughout Miami-Dade County and collectively helped to get rid of more than 38 tons of trash from the shorelines and nearby islands of Biscayne Bay.
"This was an opportunity for all residents, young and old, to enjoy our Bay while doing their part to protect it. The hope is that if residents see the impact this debris has on the ecosystem, they will be more inclined to help to preserve it," said Carlos Espinosa, DERM Director.
Baynanza is more than a community event; it's now a tradition that has transcended two generations throughout its 26-year history. Be a part of this monumental effort in April of 2009 when we will be celebrating the 27th anniversary of the Biscayne Bay Cleanup Day.
