FAQ
- Is this service available to all buildings?
The availability of service may depend on frequency and volume for collection, as well as building location. Inquiries regarding recycling services should be directed to your RCC liaison or building manager
- What happens to the materials collected for recycling?
When possible, they will be shipped to a recycling facility for processing. The reclaimed materials can be used in new products - such as new batteries and stainless steel products. Otherwise the materials collected may be handled as a hazardous waste.
- How do I recycle the Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) battery for my computer?
Depending on the UPS manufacturer there are several options available including using a manufacturer supplied shipping label, paying for shipping yourself, or delivering to a local facility. Below are some examples.
American Power Conversion Corp.
If you purchased an APC Replacement Battery Cartridge, a prepaid shipping label will be provided to return the old battery to an APC battery disposal facility. If you did not purchase an APC Replacement Battery Cartridge, then you can either dispose of the old battery cartridge at any local battery disposal location or you can pay for the shipping of the old battery cartridge to:
Fortune Plastic and Metal / APC
20 Carbon Place
Jersey City, NJ 07305
For more information about options from APC please view the FAQ on their website (http://nam-en.apc.com/cgi-bin/nam_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=2409 ) or contact them by phone at 1.800.800.4APC.
Often the batteries inside the units will be labeled with a phone number to contact for recycling information.
For example, some battery packs have been labeled with the national contact number for CSB Battery Technologies, Inc. 1.800.738.7372. They can provide local contact information from their national network of approved lead reclamation centers. In Miami-Dade County the contact is:
