Reduce Waste and Conserve Resources Whenever Possible!
This is the first step - Try to minimize the amount of waste generated in the first place! Do you really need to print that document, or can you route it electronically? How many copies do you really need? Get an accurate count BEFORE you print or copy too many. There are many simple steps you can take at the office, in your daily operations, and at home that can help you and the County conserve valuable resources. For more information, see DERM’s Tips for “Greening Your Office.”
Reuse Materials Whenever Possible!
This is the second step. Once you have minimized waste as much as possible, reuse whatever is left, whenever possible. Is that piece of paper only printed on one side? If so, then there is still another side available that can be used in a number of ways such as: scratch paper, drafts, notepads, fax receipts, etc. What about file folders? Just slap a new label over the old one, or turn it "inside out" and use it again. How much plastic ware do you use and throw away each week from lunch? Ever thought about washing it and reusing it? There are many opportunities for reusing items that you might not have thought of!
