What is the Industrial Facilities (IW-O) Permit used for? | |
This permit is used to regulate facilities that store, handle, use, or generate hazardous materials or hazardous waste throughout Miami-Dade County. The permit provides operating conditions and requirements as well as guidance for the operators.

It is necessary to protect both the public and the environment from the consequences of improper storage, generation, disposal, or handling of hazardous materials and hazardous waste.

What other permits are needed for the Industrial Facilities (IW-O) Permit before I can start work? | |
This depends on the type of facility, and location, to be permitted. If located within any city or municipality, a municipal Occupational License or a Certificate of Use from the city is generally required prior to DERM accepting this permit. In unincorporated areas of the county, a valid Certificate of Use (CU), or approved CU application must be submitted. It is suggested that other municipal, county, State and Federal Agencies also be consulted to determine which additional permits must be obtained.

How long does it take to process the Industrial Facilities (IW-O) Permit? | |
A completed application submitted in person is generally reviewed and answer provided in a matter of minutes. The actual Operating Permit posted at the facility is usually mailed within thirty days of receiving the complete application and obtaining approval.

How long is the Industrial Facilities (IW-O) Permit valid? | |
This permit is generally valid for one year. The permit cycle is as follows:
IW2, 3, or 4 (IW-0) June 1 though May 31.
