What is the Solid Waste Permit for the Operation of a Lake Fill used for?

This permit is used to maintain a continuous compliance and enforcement process that assists facilities in complying with local and state regulations, which in turn protects human health and the environment.

Why is the Solid Waste Permit for the Operation of a Lake Fill necessary?

This permit is required under Chapter 24-18, Miami-Dade County Code, for facilities that receive, store and dispose of Clean Fill in surface water bodies (e.g., lakes). Clean fill is defined as material consisting of soil, rock, sand, earth, marl, clay, stone and/or concrete rubble.

What other permits are needed for the Solid Waste Permit for the Operation of a Lake Fill before I can start work?

  • A Certificate of Use and Occupancy from the Miami-Dade County Department of Planning & Zoning or Municipal Zoning.
  • A Class VI Stormwater Drainage Permit application and determination from the Environmental Resources Management Water Control Section.
  • An Environmental Resource Permit (ERP) from Florida’s Department of Environmental Protection may also be needed.
  • Approval from the Department of Public Works and Waste Management.
