Paradise Tree (Simarouba glauca)

Paradise TreeDescription: A native, slow-growing, sturdy tree with a dense rounded crown and shiny, leathery leaves. Seeds and small black edible fruits can attract birds, but may stain concrete and decks. Flowers in spring with pale yellow blossoms.

Size: Large (typically 35 feet in height)

Location: Plant at least 30 feet from power lines and 16-22 feet from your house. Full sun.

Salt tolerance: High

Watering: Water during planting and for one year thereafter (see watering schedule in the "Dig In Miami-Dade County"  booklet). May need to water during fruiting if under drought conditions.

Fertilization: Do not fertilize until 6 months after planting. Call 305-248-3311 ext.228 for fertilizing information specific to your tree.

Pruning: Wait one year to prune. If staked, remove after 6 months.
