Water Supply - Private Wells
Private & Public wells may be constructed and utilized by Miami-Dade County residents and businesses for a variety of purposes. These can include: irrigation, fire suppression systems, monitoring wells, test wells, and even domestic supply wells where public water is not available. Construction, repair, and abandonment of these wells that are 12 inches in diameter or less require a permit according to FS 373 and FAC 40E-3.041 FAC from Florida Department of Health.
Water wells less than 12" in diameter are to be permitted by the Miami-Dade County Health Department (unless they fall under the Chapter 40E-30, Florida Administrative Code exemption).
Wells greater than 12" require a permit from the South Florida Water Management District. Additionally, a Water Use Permit is required from the South Florida Water Management District for all wells other than for single-family residences, duplexes, and fire fighting wells.
