Vendors to Display Wares February 17

MIAMI GARDENS – In honor of Black History Month, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Barbara Jordan will be hosting the 5th Annual Black Heritage Festival on Saturday, February 17, from noon to 4 p.m. Join Commissioner Jordan and City of Miami Gardens Mayor Oliver Gilbert for this free event, featuring music, culture, crafts, family-friendly activities, and more.

“As we observe Black History Month, we will honor the contributions that African Americans have made to this country,” said Commissioner Jordan. “It’s so important to teach younger generations about the forefathers who paved the way for them, so this year, our theme will be ‘Celebrating a Rich History.’”

There will be mobile units on site providing information and services such as the Miami-Dade Office of the State Attorney and the Miami-Dade Public Library System. The festival will also feature African fashions, dancers, face painting, rock climbing, vendors, and food trucks.

“The City of Miami Gardens is honored to host the Black Heritage Festival with Commissioner Jordan,” says Mayor Oliver Gilbert. “Knowing and celebrating who we are, what we have accomplished, and the way stations of our historic journey, informs what we can do when we purpose ourselves towards progress and a common path.”

Attendees will enjoy performances by Jesus People Ministries International Gospel Choir, Rebecca “Butterfly” Vaughns, the Junkanoos, Simone’s Just Dance Studios, the Viking Freedom Writers and more.

Sponsors for the Black Heritage Festival are EAC Consulting, Inc., Airside International Business Park, AT&T, Marlins Foundation, Carrie Concessions, Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau, Urban Health & Wellness Group, IGWT Construction Inc., and Slip-N-Slide Records.
