(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Commissioner Barbara J. Jordan kicked up her heels with residents from her district at her annual Valentine's Day Dance for Seniors on Monday, February 14, 2011. The commissioner and 425 seniors, all clad in red, enjoyed a pleasant evening of dinner and dancing at the Landmark Auditorium in Miami Gardens.
"I've been hosting this event for several years now, and it's always a treat to spend time with residents who get decked out for the holiday and show me a thing or two on the dance floor," said Commissioner Jordan.
Live music was provided by George Lane and the Miami House Rockers. A number of local businesses sponsored the event and helped make the evening's festivities free for the seniors: The Tax Doctor, Hebrew Homes, AVE, Calder Race Course, and World Waste Services. Arlines's Restaurant & Seafood, Esther's Restaurant, Hair Xscape, and Lulu's Car Wash also donated gifts for the dance. In addition, I AM ONE, Greater Miami Services, Job Corps, and the Buccaneer Booster Club provided volunteers.
