(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Commissioner Barbara J. Jordan will appear on the first episode of "Our Children," a new, quarterly talk show from The Children's Trust that will inform the public about important programs, initiatives, and issues impacting children and families. The episode, which will air on Saturday, March 12, 2011 from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., can be viewed on WSVN 7 and on Miami-Dade TV (please check your local listings for correct channel).
The show will be hosted by veteran broadcast journalist Ileana Varela and Modesto Abety, The Children's Trust president and CEO. Commissioner Jordan, who has served on the Trust's board for three two-year terms, will be discussing a number of topics: quality child care, funding for subsidized child care slots, a potential change to Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten, legislation that would require schools' free and reduced lunch application to double as an application for KidCare, Medicaid reform, and a bill that would make it a felony for health care workers to ask if there is a gun in the home, or if a child has access to a gun in the home.
"The Children's Trust now has a more mainstream forum to provide families and caregivers with a wealth of information on helping at-risk kids," said Commissioner Jordan. "I'm proud to be taking part in the first episode, and I hope residents will tune in to learn more about what the Trust is doing to improve the quality of life for children in Miami-Dade County."
Individual segments will be made available on Miami-Dade TV and on www.thechildrenstrust.org.
