(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Scores of families turned out for the first Movie Night in the Gardens where the feature film "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," captured kids' hearts. Children, wrapped in blankets and sitting in their parents' laps, sat attentive as the mean Mr. Grinch transformed into a loving and caring creature. The movie, organized to jumpstart the holidays for residents in North Miami-Dade, was sponsored by Miami-Dade County Commissioner Barbara J. Jordan and City of Miami Gardens Councilman Oliver Gilbert.
"This was a classic movie that all kids enjoy," said Commissioner Jordan. "It had a timeless message and provided a wholesome experience for children in District 1."
Kids were treated to free popcorn, hot dogs, and snow cones. This joint venture was made possible by the Miami-Dade County Parks Foundation. Through the Foundation, Commissioner Jordan plans to coordinate additional family movie nights in County parks throughout District 1.
"The success of a district depends upon its leaders' ability to effectively collaborate on projects that uplift the morale and enhance a sense-of-community," said Councilman Oliver. "Commissioner Jordan has been a willing leader in North Miami-Dade County and the City of Miami Gardens looks forward to a relationship that creates other festive and productive neighborhood events."
