(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- The Miami-Dade County Youth Commission is televising its Thursday, June 14, 2012, 3:00 p.m. meeting on Miami-Dade TV Ch. 76. The meeting is taking place at the Stephen P. Clark Center, 111 NW 1st Street, 2nd Floor Commission Chambers, in downtown Miami. Among the meeting’s topics of discussion are the challenges youth will be facing in the upcoming school year and highlights on the success of the commission cycle.
The public will be allowed to speak during the public forum for up to three minutes. Any interested youth is invited to attend this meeting. Those that attend will be given community service hours.
The Youth Commission was created by an ordinance passed by the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners (BCC) sponsored by Commissioner Barbara J. Jordan. Members serve in an advisory capacity to the Board, and are tasked with learning about government; they participate in the process of Miami-Dade County government, and represent and articulate the needs of youth in the County. The Youth Commission will unveil an annual report to the public that will be submitted to the BCC, Mayor Gimenez and Senior Management of the County to help resolve youth related issues.
“These are our future policymakers who will be sitting around that dais,” said Commissioner Barbara Jordan, who implemented the Youth Commission. “These students are fulfilling their mission of identifying issues and concerns of our youth and recommending solutions.”
